Regulation effect of slit-check dam against woody debris flow: Laboratory test

چکیده
Woody debris flows (i.e., carrying wood) are common in mountainous and forested areas. They can cause more severe hazards due to the effects of LW (woody larger than 1 m length 10 cm width) compared without LW. Mitigation structures for have considered little regulating effect on influence regulation sediment. Thus, model tests were conducted discuss slit-check dams woody flow. Research results demonstrated that effectively regulate overflows. Once overflow occurs, sediment trapping efficiency wood retention rate dramatically decrease. The shared a linear relationship with relative opening width, height-to-width ratio opening, density . However, this was also influenced by A logarithmic between obtained. is mainly determined channel width dam. Three draining patterns at dam three clogging types openings observed. Some design criteria structure parameters proposed. These research promote better understanding provide basis optimal dams.

Experimental Study of the Effect of Hydraulic Parameters on Debris Flow Control in Inclined Slit Trapezoidal Check Dams
Check dams are one of the structures used to control debris flows. In this study, in order to evaluate the effect of hydraulic parameters on debris sediment trapping rate by the slit trapezoidal check dams with different angles, and to develop an empirical relation for determination of trapping coefficient of the dam reservoirs, three physical models of the check dams were used. The tests were ...

Summary Downstream impacts to aquatic environments and property generally occur as cumulative watershed impacts, which are usually caused by changes in the transport of woody debris, water, and sediment through a watershed. The downstream cumulative ...
متن کاملWoody debris research: Overview
Fallen woody debris, standing dead trees (taller than 1.3 m) and stumps (shorter than 1.3 m) constitute a large portion of total above-ground carbon in tropical and temperate forests (Keller et al. 2004; Rice et al. 2004). In addition to being an important carbon pool, aboveground necromass is important in nutrient cycling, water retention, fuel load, and as resources for many organisms. Despit...
متن کاملAssessing the Effect of Fire Regime on Coarse Woody Debris
This study used field data and modeling to examine how coarse woody debris (CWD) differs between two areas that experienced different fire regimes (120to 300-year mean fire return intervals) in the 1500-1850 period. Although fire frequency and severity established the overall pattern of CWD succession, the interaction of fire regime with other controlling factors caused the differences in CWD m...
متن کاملConducting Flow Measurement Laboratory Test Work
Mass flow measurement is the basis of most technoeconomic formulations in the chemical industry. This calls for reliable and accurate detection of mass flow. Flow measurement laboratory experiments were conducted using various instruments. These consisted of orifice plates, various sized rotameters, wet gas meter and soap bubble meter. This work was aimed at evaluating appropriate operating con...
